Voice OTP: Working, Applications, Features

In this digital era, securing information is the very first priority of any service provider. OTP is a security layer that gives users more control over any activity related to their accounts and profile. This way, a user can stop any kind of information leak, fraud, or data breach. For a very long time, OTP is playing the role of a guardian. These OTPs are usually sent over a user’s registered mobile number.

As told, Voice OTP acts as an additional layer of security for your users. As you start using this service, you eliminate the threat of data security and phishing attacks. There are so many ways a business can use it. But before knowing its purpose, let’s learn how it works.

How Voice OTP Works:

As your business is registered with our Voice OTP service, all you need to do is to integrate our Voice OTP API with your system. Once done, a user can request for voice OTP to verify their particular action or identity.

Step 1: Request

A request for voice OTP can be generated by the user end or the system end. Like in the case of account creation, a system can either directly send a voice OTP to the user for verification, or a user can request this manually itself.

Step 2: Generate

Once requested, API receives this request and generates a random OTP. API turns the OTP password in audio using Text-to-Speech. Once done, API integrates it with the IVR system.

Step 3: Call

Now a call will be initiated from the system end. The user has to pick up the call and listen to the OTP sent over the call via IVR. Now to get verified, the user must enter the OTP in the related field before it expires.

All these three simple steps take only 5-6 seconds to call a user to deliver the OTP. With these three simple steps, you will be able to give your user more security and avoid chances of a phishing attack.

Now, as you know how voice OTP works, let’s learn about how a business can use it.

Potential Applications of Voices OTP:

Authorization: A business can use it to verify transactions or account creation-like activity on their platform. This verification is never going to increase the complexity of your website or user experience. The only purpose it will be serving is to make transactions more secure.

Authentication: It can also be used to verify any activity happening on the user account. These activities can be password creation, alteration, account verification, account deletion, human verification, editing account information, or more.

Transactions: Not only for money transactions, but a business is also able to use it for other kinds of transactions supported by the service end. From virtual money to real money, every transaction is secure with voice OTP.

Reactivation: If a service user of yours wants to rejoin the service again, then also this service is very reliable.

Password: Voice OTP can be used to verify the activity of the password creation or reset process. But, it can also be used as the password to log in. A user can request for login with voice OTP to make the login process more secure.

The Key Features:

Now let's talk about some features that voice OTP possesses.

Voice-Based Passcode:

As a business using Voice OTP, now you can verify a user in real-time without compromising the security. The OTP will be well received over the call, and a user can enter it as soon as they hear it. It is real-time and more secure than other verification methods.

Phone Number Verification:

The system is capable of detecting if a phone number entered is correct or not. If a user enters a wrong number, the system will detect the error and will inform the user to enter the correct phone number.

TTS (Text-To-Speech):

This feature of this service allows the business to create some custom dialogues or prefixes before telling the customer their OTP. The system will convert the entered text into a speech followed by the OTP.

Call Forward Detection:

Whenever a voice OTP is triggered, the system will check whether it is getting forward to another number or not. If that is the case, then it allows the system to take action on that number. The system can block the number or notify for another verification attempt.

Called ID:

Whenever a voice OTP call takes place, the system will give it a dynamic caller ID. It will make it easy for a user to know if it is a genuine call or not.

No To Answering Machine:

If a user has activated a voicemail or answering machine, the system will terminate the call. This keeps the passcode or OTP safe. Human interaction is a must to receive the OTP.

So these are the basic information about the voice OTP. There are so many businesses already using this feature and SMEs are trying to get their hands at this. This service not only provides you with a secure and reliable authentication method but also creates a big brand-like presence for your business.
